It’s been a little while since I’ve posted, that’s mainly because I’ve been in the trenches working on Lockwood Tower. I just passed 72,000 words, on my way to 73,000, and the rest is mainly the finale. Pieces are falling into place and my heroes aren’t sure how it will all end up. (I know how it will, but I won’t tell them!)
Finishing up a book, even a first draft, is very scary to me. I’ve been dreading the finish because everything rests upon the ending being satisfying. Thankfully after listening to a recent episode of The Self Publishing Podcast, I had my fears tamed a little where Sean said to just push through the ending and fix things in the second draft. Still, I needed to switch things up, so I made some progress on Episode Three of The Spectre when my imagination didn’t want to work on Garrett’s tale.
It’s also the start of the autumn season, so writing about ghosts and haunted houses has been a really nice diversion. I hope to be done this episode soon. Things are not going to be easy for those characters – Eddie and Heather. Nothing regarding the paranormal ever is!
So, that is the update. Putting the fingers to the keyboard, and something eventually comes of it! What sort of things do you do to get into the autumn mood? Any writing rituals or even food traditions? (Apple cider. Mmm!) I’d love to hear about them!

You’re making excellent progress on your fantasy! I’m around the same word count in my fantasy, but, unfortunately, mine hasn’t passed the midpoint. Perhaps I should have plotted a shorter book.
I put your first chapter in my to read list. I’ll let you know what I think!

Thanks, Jim! I find that even when I outline and plot, the word count becomes fluid. I originally estimated that each chapter would be about 1,500-2,000 words for me to finish the draft, but then the chapters stretch to over 3,000. That’s one thing I didn’t notice about fantasy before I started: It has its own pace and the long chapters are usually essential to set things up for later payoffs in the plot. Just take it one chapter/scene at a time! 🙂
